Mr. Duncan CHIU

Chairman of Lai Yuen Amusement Park and Managing Director of Radiant Venture Capital

Lai Yuen Amusement Park Limited (Lai Yuen) is an entertainment and media production company dedicated to introduce top-notch performance and entertainment events to Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asian countries. Lai Yuen has deep roots in Hong Kong, founded in 1949 and has served as the only full scale amusement park in Hong Kong until Ocean Park came into existence in 1977. Mr. Deacon TK Chiu bought Lai Yuen in 1961 and since then has been the pioneer of Hong Kong entertainment market by bringing many “first time” shows, performances and amusement equipment to Hong Kong. In 1982, Chiu’s family divested into media business and successfully turned perennially troubled broadcaster Asian Television (“ATV”) into a profitable venture. After the family’s exit on their investment in ATV, the original Lai Yuen Amusement Park has also finished its historical mission in 1997, with the original site being redeveloped into a real estate project.

To celebrate the 66th anniversary of Lai Yuen, Duncan, son of Mr. Deacon T. K. Chiu, launched “Lai Yuen Super Summer 2015” at Hong Kong Central Harbourfront Event Space in the summer of 2015. It was a reinvented version of the former Lai Yuen, with nostalgia, local flavor and modern technology elements. “Lai Yuen Super Summer 2015” was a huge success and was an iconic event of the year with more than 1.2 million visitors recapturing their childhood memories and celebrating joyful moments with their families and friends. Local and overseas media reported more than 1,000 times before the opening with more than 300 million reading rate.

Apart from his role as Chairman of Lai Yuen, Duncan also founded Radiant Venture Capital in 2014 together with Dr. Gordon Yen to focus in early stage investments into tech startups. In less than two years, Radiant has already invested into close to 20 startup companies in Israel, US, China and Hong Kong. Duncan has participated and spoke at numerous tech forum and conferences to promote startup culture in Hong Kong and help young entrepreneurs with business plan workshops and mentorship.

Duncan is also very active in community services and served as Chairman of Hong Kong Software Industry Association (HKSiA) from 2008 to 2014; Member of HKTDC China Trade Advisory Committee from 2010 to 2014; Member of HKTDC Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Services Advisory Committee from 2006 to 2010; Advisory Committee Member of Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong from 2006 to 2011; External Member of Industrial Liaison Committee, Faculty of Science and Engineering, City University of Hong Kong from 2005-2008.
