SCC set up a Smart City Pavilion at the “Hong Kong Smart City Pavilion” in China Smart City International Expo held at the Beijing Exhibition Hall on 3-5 December 2020 to promote Hong Kong smart city services to mainland users and officials.

Organised by China Centre for Urban Development (CCUD) and Smart City Development Alliance (SCDA), the China Smart City Expo is a leading event of its kind in China.  At the HK Smart City Pavilion, the products or services of 26 Hong Kong companies in IoT, FinTech and Information Security sectors were presented to mainland users.  The pavilion was sponsored by the Trade and Industrial Organisation Support Fund from the Trade and Industry Department of HKSAR Government, with Cyberport, Hong Kong Software Industry Association, and Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council as Collaborating Organizations.

Publicity efforts included event website, press releases and advertisements targeted at mainland media, event booklets and TV wall introducing the performance of the Hong Kong ICT sectors.

The 2020 Expo attracted 200 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors daily, the drop in visitor number was due to the limitation of number of visitors in response to the anti-pandemic measures.   According to the questionnaire of HK Pavilion, all the exhibitors mentioned that the participation helped them to understand the situation and demand of mainland market and 96% of the exhibitors would like to join again if there is opportunity in future.
