MoU Signing with IoT Alliance Australia (IoTAA)

Organized by SCC. Mr. Eric Yeung, SCC's Convener signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mr. Frank Zeichner, CEO of IoT Alliance Australia (IoTAA) on the second day of the Internet Economy Summit. Key members from the Australian Consulate-General, Hong Kong Government and SCC Steering Committee witnessed the signing. They include Deputy Consul-General (Commercial) & Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner – Hong Kong & Macau Mr. Sam Guthrie, Consul (Commercial) & Trade and Investment Commissioner - Hong Kong & Macau Ms. Wendy Haydon, together with Secretary for Innovation and Technology Mr. Nicholas Yang, Government Chief Information Officer Ir. Allen Yeung, as well as Co-Chairs of SCC Steering Committee Dr. Hon Elizabeth Quat and Dr. Winnie Tang.
 
As described by Mr. Guthrie that the MoU signing signifies "the closer collaboration between Australia and Hong Kong on the development of smart cities."
 
IoTAA was founded in May 2015, and is the primary IoT industry body in Australia with members being drawn from a wide cross-section of IoT service providers, vendors, consultants and suppliers as well as business, universities and consumer groups. Its vision is to empower industry to nurture the nation's competitive advantage through IoT.
 
Currently, 4 Australian cities rank as the world's top 10 liveable cities. The Australian Federal Government supports Smart City initiatives and is aiming to fast track smart technology and improve infrastructure planning and funding through the Infrastructure Financing Unit, and Sustainable Infrastructure Fund.
 
In April 2016, its Government launched a Smart Cities Plan which is for supporting productive, accessible, liveable cities that attract talent, encourage innovation and create jobs and growth. It includes three pillars: Smart Investment, Smart Policy and Smart Technology.
