SCC Beijing Tour - Smart City Expo
National governments and cities around the world are investing in the potential of smart cities at an ever increasing rate. In China alone, over 300 smart city pilot schemes are under planning aiming to address the acute challenges of how to move people and things around; how to provide fuel and electricity; how to keep people safe when more and more people are moving into cities from the countryside.
Further to our signing a Memorandum of Understanding with mainland's Smart City Development Alliance (SCDA) on 13th April, 2016 in Hong Kong to enhance our relationship with China on smart city construction, we have organized a tour to Beijing to participate in the 2016 China Smart City Expo. The event which was organized by China Centre for Urban Development and SCDA, under the guidance of National Development and Reform Commission, was China's only national level, cross-ministry, multi-regional and cross-industry smart city event up till now.
The theme of the Expo was "'Internet+' Smart City". With a display area of 15,000 square metres, the Expo showed the development of 10 sectors including smart city, smart finance, smart energy, smart community, smart business, aged health-care, smart travel, emergency response, and smart city international cooperation. Besides, a series of forums on topics relating to smart city development, such as smart finance, sponge city, and green city, also took place.
Dr. Winnie Tang, Co-Chairman of Steering Committee was the leader of the tour which comprised over 30 SCC members as well as Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology Dr. David Chung and Assistant Government Chief Information Officer Mr. Gary Lai.
This trip is a success that we SCC and China's SCDA have enhanced mutual understanding and have built up a sound working relationship which will facilitate collaboration in future. Dr Winnie Tang therefore wants to express her heartfelt gratitude to SCDA for offering such a fruitful tour for us
