Public Consultation Forum on an Advisory Paper for the Smart City Blueprint in Hong Kong
The government has scheduled to hold a public consultation for formulating a master framework of Smart City Development Blueprint in the second half of this year.
Smart city is one of the solutions to urban development problems - our lives would be greatly improved by a broad range of unprecedented social, economic and environmental growth.- Smart city initiatives are multi-disciplinary and cover topics such as Internet of Things, spatial data, electronic identification, eHealth, public safety, big data, cyber security, FinTech and green tech.- In view of this, Hong Kong's various "smart city" initiatives should spark new business opportunities and additional economic growth. Please visit our website for details of the "Smart City" concept, SCC's role, mission and vision: https://smartcity.org.hk/
In 2016's Policy Address and 2016/2017's Budget, the government has outlined its intention to develop Hong Kong as a smart city. The government has also allocated resources headed by the OGCIO to investigate and adopt new innovative technologies and solutions in the overall plan.
At SCC, our mission is to share our expertise, advice and views in collaboration with other professional bodies to assist the government in building a smart city. Therefore, we have organized a 5-week long consultation exercise.
To kick off, we held a Public Consultation Forum on 4th August, 2016. Members and guests attended the Forum at Metta in Central to express their opinions and ideas. Dr. Winnie Tang, Chairman of the Steering Committee and Mr. Daniel Chun, Chairman of SIG-Smart City Blueprint took up the role as moderator to share their insight on how to conduct a comprehensive public consultation during the Forum and have also joined the discussions with the participants for both the Chinese and English sessions.
The consultation process aims to bring together like-minded parties and/or organizations from both the private and public sectors to explore how Hong Kong can leverage information and technological advances to build a smarter Hong Kong and to deliver better services to meet public needs.
We welcome views and suggestions from individuals, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, academia, and practitioners, experts from various sectors as well as trade associations and chambers of commerce. Through this collaborative effort, we hope that the public consultation could unravel new agenda and strategies for Hong Kong.
We look forward to receiving your views. Please send your submission by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. on or before 10th Sept, 2016.
